The New Hampshire town of Hinsdale, with a population of just over 4,000, is located in Cheshire County and enjoyed its own racecourse in 1958. It provided harness racing throughout the late 1950s through to 1985, after which a Greyhound track was opened on the same site, operating until 2008. The racetrack and its array of outbuildings were demolished once greyhound racing ceased. The 4 furlong oval track, with 156 metre home straight, benefitted from a grandstand and Clubhouse which had combined capacity to seat 6,000 people. The inaugural meeting took place on Thursday 14th August 1958, with Stormy Spirit taking his place in history as the first winner, and remained a popular destination for harness race enthusiasts for the next 27 years. The highlight of the racing year was the New Hampshire Gold Cup, but eventually interest dwindled and profits drained away, the final meeting taking place on Sunday 28th July 1985.
